Work experience is not only a great add to your resume and may impress an employer; however it can be very beneficial to gain practical experience. Not only can this help with your university study, but you can transfer these invaluable skills gained to your workplace once you graduate. Look to the National Pro Bono Resource Centre website: www.nationalprobono.org.au.This website provides some great general information regarding pro bono – but also great links to volunteer opportunities and other opportunities for law students.
Visit this website: www.clcvolunteers.net.au. Many Community Legal Centres are currently seeking volunteers. This can range from women’s services to the environment.
A community legal centre is also a place where a law student can complete their GDLP (Graduate Diploma Legal Practice). The website http://www.lawgraduatesrrrclc.com.au/index.html provides for information on how a law graduate can pursue this option.
A service provided by UniSA is My Career Plan. This facility allows students to search not only for work experience or volunteer work, but also for paid part time work, graduate employment and paid internships. Further to this, the facility also provides for students to create their own personal profile, which allows them to keep a record of their skill sets, careers goals, experience, and allows the creation of a resume.
