Does International Humanitarian Law inspire you?
Students at the UniSA School of Law are invited to compete in the IV International Law Competition “Youth for Peace” where they will solve problems concerning international humanitarian and public law. The competition is organised by the International Institute of Labour and Social Relations and will be held in Minsk, Belarus from the 18th to the 22nd of May, 2009. The deadline for registration is by February 2nd so get in quick.
The best team and best speaker will be chosen according to the following criteria: - Knowledge of international humanitarian law; - Knowledge of international public law; - Ability to put theory into practice; - Ability to support their viewpoint; - Ability to react to different situations; - Teamwork
Teams of three will write two essays for the Preliminary Competitions which determine entry into the Final in Minsk. These essays are on the following issues: - “International humanitarian law in globalization context”; and - A general question on why the competition appeals to you
The word limits for each essay are 1000 for the first and 500 for the second. The venture will cost applicants 300 Euros, including participation in the competition, accommodation for 5 days and 4 nights, all meals and a sightseeing and entertainment program. Participants will be expected to pay the costs of travel, expenses, telephone calls and extra beverages.
