Loving law’s communitas vibe! There’s no greater feeling than total absorption – flow, when you are out enjoying yourself with fellow law students in a communitas experience and that is what USALSA’s social activities aims to achieve. USALSA strives to provide the work/life balance that most organisations are now recognising as fundamental in a person’s life. USALSA’s vision via the initiatives of Andy (Activities Director), myself (Vice President of Social Inclusion) and various other committee members is to create events that provide pleasurable experiences. In 09’ USALSA plans to host diverse events to cater for all members: pub crawls, cocktail networking night, Halloween party, Quiz Night and various other events. This year is significant as there is greater emphasis on hosting a pub crawl in each trimester. The trimester one pub crawl themed ‘Kirby is my homeboy’ that was held on the 24th of April proved to be extremely successful. Close to 150 attendants came out and enjoyed the night down Rundle Street in the Austral, followed by the Elephant. Two more pub crawls are scheduled in trimesters two and three, promising to be filled with laughter, drink specials, funky themed t-shirts and the morning after of trying to remember the night before. The cocktail networking night (date to be advised) will be an evening providing student’s with the space to interact with academics and practitioners in a casual yet social setting. The night is a must for foodies with fine food and wine. The annual Halloween party held on the 30th of October is a funky dress up affair so come in your creative or horrific frocks. Why not dress up as the likes of Duff Man as Andy did last year. Awards and prizes will be presented to those with the best costumes. USALSA will host its first Quiz Night organised by Tristan (President). The night will be one of knowledge, trivia and most of all fun. So come with your thinking hats on. These are USALSA’s upcoming events in 09’ and as your representatives we seek members’ feedback on our events: what events you liked, what worked/what did not work and for any other ideas and suggestions for future events. Hence, USALSA hopes you come along to our events and join in law’s communitas spirit as the memories, experiences and friendships you gain will last a lifetime.
